I unlocked a core memory from when I was a child.
The electricity went out for over an hour, and instead of panicking or feeling frustrated, I stumbled upon a little treasure from my childhood. I grabbed my phone, turned on the torch, and aimed it at a plain white wall. Almost instinctively, my hands started moving, creating different shapes and figures with the shadows. It was like rediscovering a forgotten art form, something I hadn’t done in years.
For about 20 minutes, I was completely immersed in this activity, exploring the various animals and movements I could create with just my hands and the light. It was like a journey back in time, to a simpler era when joy came from the simplest of things. It was only when my brother shouted at me to snap out of it that I realized how lost I had become in the moment. But that experience made me realize something profound: our brains are wired to crave the things that brought us joy as children.
Whether it’s making shadow figures, drawing, painting, or even listening to the songs we loved back then, revisiting these childhood pleasures can unlock a flood of memories and emotions we may have forgotten about.
In a world that often feels overwhelming and chaotic, sometimes all we need is to reconnect with our inner child and tap into that reservoir of happiness and innocence that still resides within us. We don’t always need new experiences to find joy; sometimes, the greatest treasures are hidden in the memories of our happiest selves.
Until next time, Adios amigo!
