Being clear about what you want is an even bigger battle.
You may think that knowing what you want to do is enough, but that isn’t the end. The urge to NOT DO anything other than what you want is so freaking strong that taking even a small step in some other direction feels like the end of the world.
Every time someone approaches you with something that is remotely different from what you do, you will be triggered. You will feel that someone has entered your sacred space and they are trying to take it away. You will feel like your blood, sweat and tears are being snatched away from you. It isn’t a pleasant feeling because you encounter emptiness.
YOU might take a break from your craft, but the moment someone else tells you to detach yourself from it, they become the villain in your world. And when you are deeply and madly in love with your craft, you don’t want to leave it, even for a moment. You ignore all valid and practical problems like finances, timelines, etc.
I’m telling you all this because this is what it takes to stick to doing something you love. And you really need a lot of luck to survive on this side of the world. You should be lucky enough to have circumstances that support you no matter when. You should be lucky to have people around you who can pick you up when times are bad. You need to be lucky and strong to take yourself through all the storms alone because you won’t always have someone by your side.
But the best part about this is that your craft becomes your everything. You have a companion for life, which can sometimes be fulfilling and sometimes a pain in the butt. But it will forever be something that you cherish with all your heart. This is the beauty of doing something you love.
Until next time, Adios amigo!
