“Since she started college, she has been opening up and showing her true colors😂”
That’s the comment I was given the most by my family when I first started going to college. It was like everyone suddenly turned into amateur psychologists, analyzing my every move. “She’s opening up and showing her true colors,” they’d say, as if I’d been hiding some secret identity all along. And now, my poor brother’s getting the same treatment as he steps into the college spotlight.
But let’s set the record straight here—we weren’t trying to pull some elaborate disappearing act before college. We were just being our usual selves, trying to navigate the maze of campus life without tripping over our own feet.
Sure, maybe we got a bit chattier once we hit this timeline. Suddenly, there were all these eager listeners hanging on our every word, like we were dispensing wisdom from Mount Olympus or something. It’s not like we had a sudden personality transplant; we were just enjoying the newfound freedom to speak our minds.
I reckon it’s that sweet taste of freedom that does it. No more hovering parents or teachers breathing down our necks. We’re finally free to spread our wings and explore the world, even if that world happens to be a dingy dorm room with questionable carpet stains.
So when people start throwing around phrases like “showing our true colors,” maybe what they’re really seeing is just us being unapologetically ourselves. We’re not trying to put on a show or impress anyone—we’re just living our best college lives, one awkward encounter at a time.
Ah, college—the land of questionable decisions and even more questionable fashion choices. Those early days were a wild ride, filled with equal parts excitement and terror. But looking back, I wouldn’t trade those moments for anything.
Now, as I watch my brother stumble his way through his bachelor’s degree, I can’t help but chuckle at the familiar comments and knowing glances. He’s in for a wild ride, that’s for sure. But hey, isn’t that what college is all about? Embracing the chaos and coming out the other side with a few good stories and hopefully, a degree to show for it.
Until next time, Adios amigo!
College was really the best time of my life. And because I liked studying (not really), I decided to take degree after degree, and this was accompanied by farewells. I have had my fair share of those, and they were so much. You HAVE TO read about it HERE!
