Me and My… Definition of Luxury (The ultimate dream)

Yeah, I look good in my Versace dress
But I’m hotter when my morning hair’s a mess
‘Cause even with my hoodie on
Bet I made you look

Meghan Trainor (Song: Made you look)

Imagine a girl in kindergarten, short hair, heavy backpack, wearing specs, meets her class teacher for the first time. The teacher is wearing something that no one in the school is allowed to wear- a top, long skirt & heels. This was the definition of luxury for me when I was young. This teacher has the sweetest voice. The way she carries her handbag, the way she greets everyone and even the way she sits in her car is a view to watch (stop giving those creepy looks, I just meant that she looked classy (laughing emojis)).

That girl was me when I was young and I was basically starstruck by my class teacher in kindergarten. Stepping into my 2nd grade classroom, I was lucky enough to have another classy class teacher (Perks of convent school). She drove a Nissan ‘SUNNY’ and that was the first Sedan I ever fell in love with. Then in 11th grade, luck favored me again and I came across another gem – My maths teacher. Her dressing sense, the tone of her voice, the rings she wore, all of it made me fantasize who I wanted to be when I grow up.

Not a bad choice for a child in the 2nd grade (laughing emojis)

These amazing experiences weren’t limited to my school life. Once in college I visited a rich area with my cousin brother called “The Khan Market”. The moment we got down from the car, I was mesmerized with the way the people around me behaved. They talked so softly and walked with their backs straight (I know, I know I focus on details too much (laughing emojis). Most of them were either carrying bags from a store or were going to cafes’ for lunch. The clothes they wore were not stamped with brand names, but the cars they got down from are a dream for a lot of people. Even the way these people eat their food is a skill to watch and learn.

That day I realized that luxury isn’t just wearing flashy branded clothes. It’s more about the class, poise, posture, charm & grace of the person who has a lot of money. Especially the women! Dude I can’t stress enough on the fact that attitude is everything for them. And don’t mistake it for EGO. By attitude I mean the look they have on their faces, the charm they have in their eyes, the confidence in their walk! I can fangirl over them for days. Of course the price tag of everything they wore, ate or carried is out of my reach for now, but I learnt that you don’t have to look the cliche “rich” to actually “be RICH”.

The first time I saw ‘The Devil wears Prada’ I got to know about the brands of the fashion world. That movie gave me insight into the luxury of the fashion world. It was quite fascinating I must say. The amount of hard work, the seriousness in work life and their passion for fashion made me feel that I don’t even put 1% of that effort in my life. If you haven’t watched this movie, you should (thank me later).

If this doesn’t scream luxury from ‘The Devil wears Prada’ I don’t know what will!

This blog wouldn’t be complete if I leave out the most luxurious place I have ever been in Delhi- DLF Emporio. I am not even exaggerating, but this place was like heaven for me. From the entrance to the decor, the lighting, the showrooms of EVERY luxury brand, the floors, the beautiful washrooms, the elevator and of course the RICHEST people I had ever seen, this mall has it all. This mall is known to have the rarest cars in its parking lot. Bugatti, Ferrari, Bentley, you name it. You can spot freaking bodyguards outside the entrance of the mall. And if this wasn’t enough, it has a live food station with only around a seating for 50 people. If you get a table here just know that you have entered the EXCLUSIVE CLUB.

Once in their lifetime everyone obsesses over brands and I did too. But I think I’m over that phase. I don’t want to waste money on wearing a jacket with the Chanel logo or carrying a handbag from Dior. I’ll buy it if I want to but I have learnt that I don’t NEED to. The obsession of showing off wealth is not classy to me anymore.

This is the view from the first floor balcony from ‘DLF Emporio’. It is always intimidating to walk into this mall, coz I am very aware of my unemployed self (laughing emojis)

From admiring rich people for the clothes they wear, the jewelry they own or the car they drive to admiring their work ethic, their balance, their discipline, their time management, I have come a long way. Mind you, there is nothing wrong in showing off your hard earned money. Anyway, a little luxury doesn’t hurt anyone. It’s just that I personally have moved on from that idea. But if you catch me carrying a Prada bag anytime soon just know that I brought it to show the 16 year old Nayan that we made it (laughing emojis)!

After reading this blog, you might assume that I am OBSESSED with being rich. And just between you and me, I am. But the good kinda rich. My inspiration are the rich women who own empires and businesses. The women who are financially rich and aren’t dependent on anyone. The ones we obsess over on our Pinterest feeds. That is the kind of filthy rich I wanna be. Yo, I almost forgot, this show called Dubai Bling on Netflix, just set the highest bar for the ‘materialistic luxury’ I have ever seen in my life. I knew people had money, but this much? Watch that show to understand what I mean. So, new goal set: be as rich as the people in Dubai bling (laughing emojis).

If you have read my blogs, you will know which character I relate to the most. You are my bestie you have to know, let me know in the comments (sob emojis)

Journal time: Write down about your luxury obsession. Have you ever been crazy about designer items like old me? Or do you admire the work ethic of the rich like the new me? Think about the feeling, wearing a branded clothing item will give you. Do you like it just for the validation from other people or it makes you feel like YOU MADE IT?

Until next time, Adios Amigos.
