Me and My… Animal Encounters (Scary or Cute?)

I’m preying on you tonight
Hunt you down eat you alive
Just like animals
Animals
Like animals

Maroon 5 (Song: Animals)

(Blank face emojis) Didn’t know I had such a relationship with animals, but here we are. Half an hour into my sleep, a tiny mouse came to my ear to say good night yesterday. Even when I was slipping into deep sleep, the squeak of its voice startled me. I literally got up and shook myself hard. My hands didn’t stop shaking for another 10 minutes, and then I went and slept with my parents.

It was quite a cute encounter, wasn’t it (single line smile emojis)? This got me thinking about all the times that these menaces have scared the shit out of me. People ask me, “Dogs or cats?” and I reply neither. Once I was chased by a dog, and I had to hide in a shop to save myself. And once a dog dug his teeth into my backpack while I was walking.

It wasn’t until I wondered why my bag was so heavy all of a sudden that I shrugged it off. Since then, I have had to be extra careful about attracting any dogs towards me. A dog also jumped on my brother once, and one bit my grandpa too. So I don’t really have much love to give them.

Exactly what it looks and feels like when a dog is chasing you!

As for cats, they haven’t troubled me yet. Once, a black cat climbed up my fridge, sat on the window pane, and didn’t come down for an hour. Other than that, I have nothing against it. And do you believe in the superstition of spitting if a cat crosses your path? I’m skeptical, but I do it just because my mom says so. Also, have you noticed that a cat won’t come to your house on Diwali, on the day that it is meant to be a good omen? Their eyes stare right into my soul, so I stay away from them.

One animal that you wouldn’t think would come to your house is a monkey. But I don’t know what kind of magic I hold; these animals just keep stopping by. The same monkey has come to my house twice in 3 weeks and taken food from the fridge, like he pays rent for the house. They come from the terrace, so now we have to lock our doors because someone decides to barge in and steal our food every evening!

This isn’t it. I went to Vrindavan, and you know that this place is famous for the attacks by these creatures. I won’t lie to you; I was warned not to wear my specs while walking around Vrindavan. But little did I know that I wouldn’t be spared for even a step. As soon as we parked our car, I opened the door and put my foot down. Before I even completely got out of the car, the monkey jumped on my shoulder, snatched my specs, and ran away.

We looked around and found him sitting on a porch. We called a local and asked for help. He said the monkey won’t leave the glasses until it gets two frooties. Yes! One wasn’t enough. We launched two frooties at him, and he took the glasses out of his mouth, left them where he was sitting, and ran away. I can’t explain how frustrated I was just at the beginning of the trip. I know it’s funny, and I give you permission to laugh (laughing emojis).

First, I thought it was just this breed of monkey (Macaca mulatta- The Rhesus monkey, to be precise), but no, this wasn’t the case. On our trip to Vaishno Devi, we were also stopped by langurs. And the funniest part was that even though we humans think we are great, we still chant Hanuman Chalisa whenever we are in trouble to protect ourselves from the wrath.

Are you bold enough to face this? No right!

Also, if you have read my latest weird dream, Part-6, you know how bulls have been on my mind lately (no, I am not in love with them!). My mom was recently attacked by a cow, and so was my dad. These cows have been plotting against our family, that’s for sure. Now, whenever I pass by a cow, my reflex is to maintain a distance. Thanks to the trust issues they gave me (sob emojis).

Lizards have also casually fallen next to me, thankfully not on me. Other insects also feel like home in my room (disgust emojis). Trust me, I clean my room more often than I should. You must be thinking, “What sin has she committed to be treated by these animals like this?” (laughing emojis). But I will admit they haven’t always troubled me.

The cutest moment I had with an animal was when I held a rabbit in my hand in 8th grade on my trip to Manali (heart eye emojis). It was like holding a month old baby- soft, squishy, and kissable. Since that day, I have despised people who eat rabbits (don’t come near me if you’re one of them). On my trip to Shimla, I sat on a horse. That was nice too.

This photo seems like the happiest I have ever been!

My cousin brother once brought two chicks home. We looked after them for a month, but unfortunately, one flew away and the other was eaten by a cat (told you cats are sneaky). I was in middle school when this happened, and I felt guilty for eating their fellow brothers. If you are wondering, my favorites are chili chicken and butter chicken (drooling emojis).

An honorary mention goes to a yak in Manali who agreed to a photo with me. The fact that I didn’t have the courage to stand beside it, however, is different. It was so big and scary for a 13 year old that you can clearly see it on my face (laughing emojis). In a nutshell, except for puppies, none of these animals can get my affection and love.

Everyone is going to focus on the Yak and not on a 13 year old who had fashion sense and was enjoying herself in Manali!

Journal Time: Jokes apart, pets have a special place in people’s hearts, and I totally acknowledge that. So this one’s for the pet parents reading this. I want you to write down the best memories you have had with your pets. The connection you have with them is amazing, and I want you to describe it and keep it with you forever.

Until next time, Adios Amigos.
